UniFi Router Login
Need to change your WiFi password or update your network settings? Log into your UniFi router's setup page to get it done.
The default gateway address for UniFi is 192.168.1.1. Type this into your browser's address bar (not the search bar) while connected to the router's network.
Login Steps
Accessing your UniFi router admin through http://192.168.1.1 will allow you to change the settings and configurations that your router software provides.
-
Connect to your UniFi router. Make sure the router is on. Plug in an ethernet cable or connect to the router's WiFi. Ethernet works best for admin access.
-
Open any web browser. Type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar (not the search bar) and press Enter.
-
If the default IP doesn't work, find the real one. On Windows, open Command Prompt and type
ipconfig. Look for "Default Gateway". On Mac, open Terminal and typenetstat -nr. -
Use the default credentials listed above. The most common combo is admin / admin. Check the label on the bottom of your router if those don't work.
-
You're in. Change your WiFi name and password, set up port forwarding, update firmware, or adjust security settings.
Troubleshooting UniFi Router Login
If you have forgotten your username and password, you can follow the instructions to recover them. If you haven't changed the default username and password that came with the router, you can consult our default router usernames and passwords list.
-
Can't reach the login page
Make sure you're connected to the UniFi router via WiFi or ethernet, not mobile data. Type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. If it still won't load, unplug the router for 30 seconds and try again.
-
Default credentials not accepted
Check the sticker on the bottom of your UniFi router. The actual username and password are printed there. If those don't work either, someone changed them. You'll need to factory reset.
-
Router stops working after changes
Reset to factory defaults: hold the reset button on the back of your UniFi router for 10-30 seconds. Wait 2-3 minutes for it to reboot, then log in again.
-
Forgot the admin password
A factory reset is the only way back in. This wipes all settings, including your WiFi name and password. You'll need to set everything up again after the reset.
-
Settings won't save
Use an ethernet cable instead of WiFi when making changes. Some UniFi routers drop the connection during saves, which causes errors.
About UniFi Routers
Ubiquiti Networks launched UniFi in 2012 as a professional-grade networking solution that home users could actually afford. The company started in 2005 making wireless equipment for internet service providers, then shifted to create enterprise networking gear that didn't require a computer science degree to operate. UniFi routers gained popularity because they offered business-level features at consumer prices.
UniFi has grown into one of the most respected networking brands worldwide. You'll find UniFi equipment in small businesses, large offices, and tech-savvy homes across the Philippines, India, Latin America, and beyond. The brand focuses on centralized management through their UniFi Network Controller software, which sets them apart from traditional home routers.
Home users choose UniFi because you get enterprise features without the enterprise complexity. The UniFi ecosystem lets you manage multiple devices from one interface, whether you have one router or twenty access points. You can see exactly who's using your network, set up guest networks easily, and get detailed performance reports that actually make sense.
UniFi routers also offer excellent value for money. You pay once for the hardware and get free software updates for years. There aren't any monthly fees or premium subscriptions like some other networking brands require.
Accessing the UniFi Admin Panel
You access UniFi routers through the UniFi Network Controller interface, not a traditional web admin panel like most routers. The controller runs on your computer, phone, or directly on certain UniFi devices called Cloud Keys. You'll need to adopt your UniFi router into the controller before you can configure it.
UniFi routers typically use 192.168.1.1 as their default IP address when first powered on. Type this address into your web browser's address bar to reach the initial setup page. If 192.168.1.1 doesn't work, check if another device on your network is already using that address range.
You can also find your UniFi router's IP address using the UniFi Network mobile app. Download the app, enable location services, and it will scan for nearby UniFi devices. The app shows each device's current IP address and adoption status.
Many people get confused because UniFi routers don't have a traditional admin panel like Linksys or Netgear routers. You can't just type an IP address and log in with username and password. Instead, you need to download and install the UniFi Network Controller software first, then adopt the router into your controller.
Another common issue happens when people try to adopt a UniFi router that was previously configured. The router might show up as "pending adoption" but won't actually adopt. You'll need to factory reset the device first, then try adoption again. Make sure your computer and the UniFi router are on the same network subnet during the adoption process.
If you're upgrading from older UniFi firmware, you might see SSL certificate warnings in your browser. UniFi changed their certificate handling in recent updates. Clear your browser cache and try accessing the controller interface in an incognito window to resolve these certificate errors.
Popular UniFi Models
The UniFi Dream Machine (UDM) is probably the most popular UniFi router for homes. It has a built-in controller, so you don't need separate software. The default credentials are usually set during initial setup, but if you need to factory reset, you'll adopt it through the built-in controller interface. The UDM Pro offers more ports and processing power for larger homes or small offices.
The UniFi Security Gateway (USG) was popular before the Dream Machine series. The USG requires a separate Cloud Key or computer running the controller software. Default adoption uses "ubnt" as both username and password, but only for the initial SSH adoption process. After adoption, you manage everything through the controller.
Newer UniFi Express and Cloud Gateway models follow the same adoption process as other UniFi devices. These don't have traditional default passwords since they're managed entirely through the controller software after adoption.
Dream Machine models have controllers built in, so you access them directly at their IP address after initial setup. Other UniFi routers like the Security Gateway need external controllers running on your computer or a Cloud Key. The adoption process is the same, but where you access the interface afterward is different.
Older UniFi models might require SSH adoption using "ubnt" and "ubnt" as credentials. Newer models support mobile app adoption and don't need SSH commands. Check your model's documentation to see which adoption method it supports.
Troubleshooting UniFi Login Issues
If you can't reach your UniFi router's adoption page, check that your computer is connected to the same network. UniFi routers in factory default mode usually broadcast a WiFi network called something like "UniFi" or the model name. Connect to that network first, then try 192.168.1.1 in your browser.
Make sure you're not trying to access a UniFi router like a regular router. Download the UniFi Network Controller software or mobile app instead. The router won't respond to standard admin panel requests until it's adopted into a controller.
UniFi routers don't use traditional username and password combinations after adoption. If you're trying to log into a previously configured UniFi router, you need the credentials for the UniFi controller account that manages it. The "ubnt" and "ubnt" default credentials only work for SSH adoption of factory-reset devices.
If someone else set up your UniFi network and you don't have the controller credentials, you'll need to factory reset all UniFi devices and set up a new controller. You can't recover controller admin passwords without access to the original controller software or account.
After factory reset, your UniFi router returns to adoption mode. Download the UniFi Network Controller software or use the mobile app to adopt it again. The router won't have any configuration until you complete the adoption process and run through the initial setup wizard.
You'll need to reconfigure all your network settings, WiFi passwords, and security rules from scratch. UniFi doesn't automatically restore previous configurations after factory reset.
How to Factory Reset a UniFi Router
Factory reset your UniFi router when you can't adopt it into a new controller, when it's stuck in a boot loop, or when you want to completely start over with a fresh configuration. Don't reset unless you're prepared to reconfigure everything from the beginning.
Locate the reset button on your UniFi router. It's usually a small recessed button on the back or bottom of the device. Power on the router and wait for it to fully boot up, which takes about 2-3 minutes. Press and hold the reset button for 10-15 seconds while the router is powered on. You can use a paperclip or similar tool to press the button.
Release the reset button and wait for the router to reboot completely. The LED lights will cycle through different colors during the reset process. On most UniFi models, you'll see white, blue, and then back to white when the reset is complete. The entire process takes 3-5 minutes.
After reset, the router broadcasts a default WiFi network for adoption. Connect your computer or phone to this network and start the adoption process using the UniFi controller software or mobile app.
Your UniFi router is now in factory default state and ready for adoption. You'll need to run through the complete initial setup process again, including creating WiFi networks, setting up security rules, and configuring any advanced features you were using before the reset.
