The Nighthawk R8000 is Netgear's tri-band wireless router that launched in 2014. This router broadcasts three separate wireless networks at once, giving you one 2.4GHz band and two 5GHz bands. It's perfect for busy homes with lots of devices, gaming setups, or small offices where multiple people need fast internet at the same time.
To access your R8000's settings, you'll need to log into the admin panel. Open your web browser and go to 192.168.1.1. When the login page appears, enter admin as your username and password as your password. These are the factory default credentials that come with every R8000.
The tri-band design means the R8000 can handle heavy network traffic without slowing down. Gamers love it because they can dedicate one 5GHz band just for gaming while other devices use the remaining bands. Families with smart TVs, tablets, phones, and laptops all running at once will notice better performance compared to single or dual-band routers.
Don't forget to change that default password once you're logged in. Keeping it as "password" leaves your network vulnerable to anyone who knows Netgear's standard settings.
See all Netgear router default logins or check the 192.168.1.1 login guide.
