Accessing your router admin through 172.16.0.1 address will allow you to change the settings and configurations that your router software provides.

   Connect your computer or phone to the router via WiFi or Ethernet. Ethernet is more reliable for accessing the admin panel.

   Open any web browser. Type the IP address into the address bar (not the search bar) and press Enter. Enter 172.16.0.1 into the address bar.

   Enter the default username and password. If they don't work, check the sticker on the bottom of your router.

  Make sure you're on the router's network (not mobile data). Check that all indicator lights are on.

Configure Your Router at 172.16.0.1

You can configure your router through 172.16.0.1 once you're logged in. The setup page gives you control over your network settings, WiFi passwords, and security features. MikroTik routers using 172.16.0.1 often have advanced options that look complex, but the basic settings are straightforward to change.

Change Your Router Password

Click on System and then Users to change your router's login password. Find the admin user and click the password field to enter a new one. Don't use the same password you had before - pick something only you know.

Make your new password at least 12 characters with numbers and symbols. Write it down somewhere safe because you'll need it every time you access 172.16.0.1. Save the changes and test logging out and back in to make sure it works.

Change Your WiFi Name and Password

Look for the WiFi or Wireless section in your 172.16.0.1 interface. You'll see fields for network name and password. Change the network name from the default to something you recognize, like your family name or house number.

Set a strong WiFi password with at least 15 characters. Mix letters, numbers, and symbols so neighbors can't guess it. Click Apply or Save when you're done. Your devices will disconnect and you'll need to reconnect them with the new password.

Port Forwarding

Port forwarding through 172.16.0.1 lets specific programs on your devices connect to the internet directly. Go to IP and then Firewall, then look for NAT rules. You'll need to know which device and which port number your program uses.

Click Add New to create a forwarding rule. Enter the port number and your device's local IP address. MikroTik routers can be tricky here, so double-check the action is set to dst-nat. Save the rule and test your program to see if it connects properly now.
